Some of our founders and team members are from Stanford, so they tend to be in the loop when it comes to exciting news and research out of the Bay Area, and this certainly qualifies.

A collaboration between researchers from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Max-Planck-Institute for Informatics and Stanford University, this project allows real-time manipulation of a face's expressions from pretty much any video source, using your own face.

So you could have video of a person in motion, and use the system to make them do whatever expressions you do. The voice over in the video mentions fairly mundane applications such as doing a video conference appearing dressed up in a suit when you're actually wearing casual clothes but I'm sure you can think of more interesting applications.

Imagine all the refreshingly impossible videos you could make. You could get your messy housemate to promise to clean the house the whole year. You could get your boss to literally sing your praises in a musical number. Or most unrealistic of all, you could finally see what it looks like when your favorite politicians tell the truth. Pranksters paradise - we can't wait till this technology is released.

We generally can't stand click-bait type statements, but you really do have to see this to believe it.
